On 10 October 2010, 88 delegates from national philatelic associations from all over the world decided who should succeed the former President of the FIP, Jos Wolff. Wolff had to resign because of his age. There were two candidates for the vacancy: Tay Peng Hian from Singapore (former Director of the Board of the FIP) and Pedro Vaz Pereira (President of the Portuguese Philatelic Association).

It was Tay Peng Hian who won the election came out, whith 57 votes against 29 for Vaz Pereira; two votes proved to be invalid.

Observers called the outcome of the voting a result of the disunity amongst the ranks of the European associations. They also said it was a well deserved success for Asia, since this continent has done it utmost to increase the interest in philatelic exhibitions and the like.

The AIJP congratulates the new President of the FIP with his appointment and it looks forward to a steady and fruitful cooperation in the coming years.
