SIEGER Literature Prize 2018 for Walter Schießl
(wm) Often profound works on classical philately have the pleasure to come to fame and glory. Far less authors of publications that are dedicated to what is called "modern philately" receive accolades for their work. In the case of editors glittering prizes are even rarer. Nevertheless – and luckily - there are exceptions. One of those ‘exceptions’ was was honoured with the SIEGER Literature Prize for the year 2018. The award was handed over in Sindelfingen, on 26 October 2018.
We are talking about Walter Schießl, who, after an early career with "stamp corners" in several daily newspapers, produced almost 44 years (!) of newsletters and special publications for the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Forschung Deutsche Bundespost" (AGF). He contributed articles to almost all kinds of journals and magazines, thus making an immeasurable contribution to the popularity of collecting modern German stamps. In the course of time, hundreds (if not thousands) smaller and larger specialised articles were produced. When he retired at the beginning of this year at the age of 88, Schießl could look back on a career that could withstand any comparison.
