18.08.2012 - American forerunner sells for U$ 333.500
On June 26, Siegel Auction Galleries held their annual rarities sale in New York.

At the auction, one of the top items was a rare 5 cent black on buff ‘Postmaster’s Provisional Stamp’ of Alexandria from 1846. Alexandria was at the time in the District of Columbia, but became later part of Virginia.
The Alexandria stamp fetched an impressing 333.500 US dollars (auction fees included).
