The former German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, may well be the subject of a special stamp, appearing later this year in Germany. That is, if a rumour presented in the German stamp magazine Deutsche Briefmarken-Revue proves to be true (see www.deutsche-briefmarken-revue.de; click on ‘Aktuelles’ and fill in ‘alt-kanzler’ in the search bar). The initiative of a number of delegates to put Kanzler Kohl’s portrait on a German stamp seems to have been taken over by the German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble. The latter explains that a special Kohl stamp could be justified because of the importance of the former Chancellor and the fact that he may be considered as a ‘Honorary Citizen of Europe’.
