05.09.2012 - Study Group GfG commemorates Olympic drama
From 26 August until 11 September 1972 the XX. Olympic Summer Games took place in Germany.
During the games, on 5 September, the Israeli Olympic Team was attacked by terrorists. Today, 5 September 2012, a special hand stamp will commemorate the victims of the attack, with a pictorial representation showing the silhouette of the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Village in Munich. Apart from this, the German study group ‘Gemeinschaft für Gegenwartsphilatelie’ (Community for Contemporary Philately) will issue a special envelope (‘Individual Plus-Letter’) which represents the two special ‘Registered’-labels that were in use during the Games: one in Kiel, the other in Munich.
